I am new to scrapbooking. I have tons of photos(it feels like it) and don't know how to get started. I received all my mother's pictures and don't know who some of the people are. Any ideas?
Hi Brenda, first I'm sorry you have lost your Mother. But what a treasure to have gotten all her photos, which is your heritage! If I may suggest, I would get a few boxes and set them on the table. The begin by putting all photos that your Mother is in in one box. In another box you could place all the unknowns. Of course as you begin going through these, you may find notes on the backs telling you who's who, so keep an eye out! You may end up with a whole lot of boxes as you do this, but what a fun project for you!
Now is it possible that there are other family members who may be able to identify some of these people? You may want to take all the photos to a place like Costco, where they will scan and put them all onto DVD's for you. I recommend this because it gives you a hard copy for safe keeping, but also because there are so many wonderful digital projects on the computer you can do with this. I do photo restoration, so everything is on computer. Then as I am working on projects, I compile copies of my originals into one folder, restore them, then print.
Back to your delima. Once you begin working on pages, you might find that you have a lot of left over photos that you would like to include, even if you don't know who they are. You can purchase clear plastic 12 X 12 sleeves that hold about 12 photos. Simply place photos inside and add sleeves to your albums.
I hope this in some way helps you as you take on the project. Remember, scrapbooking is all about having fun! There are no rules, except that there are no rules! And post often, letting everyone know how you are doing. With so much experience here, you are bound to find just what you need, simply by asking!
