I am not big into scoring my cardstock before I fold it to make a card. I have tried it, and no matter how many times I measure it always seems to be off by a smidgen. I generally end up trimming off a bit anyway so it isnt a big deal, but it annoys me when I fold it. So I tend to just fold it in half and use my bone folder. I have become a master at doing this just right so that the edge doesnt get very torn! I feel most comfortable doing it this way. I know a lot of other people love their scoring products but for some reason I do not!

Are you a scorer? Or do you free hand it like me?

I often use a medium point embossing tool to run a light score, then fold and press with my bone tool. Have used the scorer that came with my fiskers cutter, too - I've about decided that there are no square pieces of cardstock made!!!

Nicole, I do both. Score freehand and do it with my fiskars scoring blade. If I'm only doing one card I just use the bone folder. It's a lot faster but if I'm doing a bunch of cards I change out my cutting blade for the scorer. I have that fancy score pal thing but I haven't used it much.

I usually use the prefolded card packs that come with envelopes, but when I do use cardstock, I just free hand it.

I do not usually score...I do like to use my bone folder. I think it is very helpful!

I didn't score, but now I have a Scor-Pal and I score everything. I also have the cutting matt, I just leave it on my table and work on it all the time.

This is a bit more technical, but it depends on whether I'm folding against the grain. When you take a piece of cardstock and cut it in half to make a card, you are generally folding with the grain so you don't need to score first (this is true of Stampin' Up! cardstock). But... if you're folding against the grain (ie. if you cut the cardstock lengthwise) it is MUCH easier to score it first.

If I don't know which way the grain of the paper runs, I'll score it first.
